Magical romantic comedy in Lincoln City

Tuesday, December 29, 2009

Theatre West in Lincoln City presents “Seniors of the Sahara”, by Barbara Pease Weber. The comedy runs from December 30th through January 23rd. 2010 every Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening. Doors open at 7:30 P.M. and the curtain rises at 8:00 P.M.

"Seniors of the Sahara" follows Sylvia Goldberg, a respectable retired New Jersey school teacher, who brings home more than just souvenirs upon returning from her grandson's wedding in Israel. Sylvie's troubles begin when she realizes that the old teapot she purchased at an outdoor market is actually a priceless relic containing a geriatric genie "Eugene" with a bad back and a penchant for vodka and V8. Keeping Eugene a secret from her three best friends proves to be nearly as difficult as protecting herself from Eugene's former master who follows Sylvie home and threatens her at knifepoint.

Seniors of the Sahara is a magical romantic comedy for seniors and "juniors" of all ages.
A special New Year’s Eve Gala will be held on Thursday, December 31. Doors open early for this event at 7:00 P.M. This is always a fun evening with entertainment, food and drink and of course bringing in 2010 with friends and family. Space is limited for New Year’s Eve and reservations are recommended.

Winter Whale Watch Week

Monday, December 21, 2009

The Winter migration of gray whales heading south to their breeding grounds in Baja California is going on now. Marine mammal experts estimate that 18,000 Gray whales and about 1,100 humpback whales pass the Oregon coast at the peak of their winter migration south. Some whales may come as close as a half mile from shore. Winter Whale Watch week is scheduled for December 26-January 1.

The Whale Watch Spoken Here program will have trained volunteers at 26 sites along the Oregon coast during whale watch week to help people spot whales. Most of the locations are outdoors, but indoor viewing is available at the Whale Watching Center in Depoe Bay on Highway 101. The Whale Watch Center keeps records of whale sightings on their website at www.whalespoken.org. The site also has tips on how to spot whales and a list of the Whale Watch locations along the coast.
